Not neglecting the previous period of existence and
development, the physical culture in Macedonia (with its basic fields:
educational, sports and recreational) was at its peak after the end of the
Second
World War. Conditionally, it may be said that it was developing in two stages:
up to 1990 together with the other constituent republics of the Socialist
Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and after its dissolution when the Republic of
Macedonia acquired its independence.
Nowadays, there are 1,374 registered sports
clubs, associated in 37 local sports associations and a small number of clubs
not listed and over 81,000 registered active members. There are about 2,000
different sports facilities and 2,027 experts at their disposal for the
realization of their activities. The crown of their efforts are 154 won medals
at several world and European championships, out of which 11 at the Olympic
Games. Our mountaineering expedition has joined the conquerors of Mount Everest,
the highest mountain of the world, that are not so numerous. The international
sports federations have entrusted our diligent sports workers to organize
various top sports events for which they have been highly evaluated.
The Faculty of Physical Culture, the Union of the Sports
Pedagogues, the engagement of the Association of the Sports Medicine Doctors and
the Section of the Sports Journalists are a complement to the system of physical
culture of the Republic, as well as is the extremely useful role of the
Macedonian Olympic Committee, which exists according to its own Olympic
principles. |
